Black Hills Ammunition has added a special purpose load to its growing 5.56mm lineup. It's optimum for hunting requiring great expansion combined with deep penetration and nearly 100% weight retention. This loading is designed for rifles with a rifling twist of 1/7 or 1/8 and 5.56 chamber. Do not shoot this round in a rifle chambered in .223.
I ordered D556N5/D556N3 with the Hornady GMX (gilded copper eXpansion) bullet from Black Hills on April 26, 2022. Three and one-half years later, that order arrived as D556N21, a new cartridge with the Hornady CX bullet replacing the GMX bullet. As far as I can tell, at this time, we are the only dealer selling this cartridge.
